WHY?!

I'm SICK again! I've got a stupid cold. Seriously. How unfair is this? On top of it, I've got a BUSY week for MBARI. We've got the Ocean Science Summit this week (Tues-Thurs) and I'm working some crazy hours on Wednesday and Thursday for it. And I mean crazy as in I have to be at places at like 7 and 6 am and work till 7 pm or later. LoL Let's hope I'm seemingly better by tomorrow or it's not going to be fun since it's legislators and scientists from all over the nation are coming for this. It's big.

This Saturday Laurie, Kate, and Kate's family are coming down to visit the Aquarium and they're having dinner at our house. Kate is from the UK and I stayed with her family for a few nights outside of London when I went to the UK this past summer. She also met up with Maria and I in Edinburgh for the HP book release. Laurie is also a HP friend and she lives up by Mountain View. I saw her last year for the PotterCast tour in San Fran. I've known Laurie and Kate for over 2 years now! Whoa.

Oh yeah! My class ring FINALLY showed up last week!! It's pretty. :)

Anyway...With that. I'm off to laze around some more. Hopefully I'll survive this week :P

Welcome to Finals Week

Finals week it is. Ugh.

I made it through these past two weeks sick, but I went to the doctor's yesterday and was prescribed antibiotics. They seem to be working. My throat doesn't hurt as much, though my ears are still a bit plugged and it still hurts to yawn. At least I'm not coughing a whole lot and I can eat perfectly fine now. Now if I can only go to sleep before 2:30am...

This last week will go by quickly, but also be stressful. I need A's on all my finals or super high B's to maintain A's or to even have a glimpse of getting an A in classes. So a lot is riding on finals right now!

My grad class final is 150 points...That's about 35% of our grade. It's cumulative too. I got a 47/50 on our last quiz, but I've got a 90.64% in the class. He letters a bit off (I think I can get an A- all the way down to an 87%), but I SO want an A or A- in this class! 92% and higher is an A.

Marine cons I'm basically getting a B in if I don't pull out an A on this final. I got...what...an 87% on the midterm? So I need an A on this final to get an A- in the class.

Physics I'm pretty much getting an A no matter what. LoL Homework extra credit really helped me a load. I'll be REALLY surprised if I don't get an A in the class.

I got my capstone back last night from its final assessment. I got an A-. *sigh* The bummer? I was ONE POINT away from an A on it and an A makes me eligible for distinction in ESSP! So...No distinction in my major and no A in capstone. :( I'll get an A-, though, which I can't snub, but...ONE POINT?! 2+ points I could handle, but ONE?! Just seems like cruel and usual punishment...

My coming week is thus:

Saturday, May 10th: studying
Sunday: Aquarium
Monday: 10am-1pm - MBARI; 2-5pm - Physics final and Physics practice demo; 6-8pm - Grade class final
Tuesday: 10:20am-12pm - Physics demo at elementary school; 4-6pm - marine cons final
Wednesday: 2:30-3pm - capstone presentation practice
Thursday: no sure yet (MIGHT do my 2nd capstone presentation practice or on Monday at MBARI)
Friday: 1:30pm-1:45pm - Capstone presentation
Saturday, May 17th: Be at the soccer field at like 8:30am; graduation starts at 10am!!!!!!!!!!

Really, I just need to get through Tuesday and I've got some HUGE breathing room. With all my capstone practices and then my own practices...I should be really good for Friday. Which is the best way to do it because I'm going to be NERVOUS at my capstone presentation. It's nerve wracking enough to have Judy there, but then a TON of other profs will be there too and some of our "trouble" people will be there to ask you those questions you ABSOLUTELY hate because you know that was a problem in your research or you have no clue. Luckily, speaking doesn't normally scare the daylights out of me. After my first few slides I should be golden (as I normally am).

Okay, with that...back to my powerpoint making...

Being ill does things to your brain...

So I forgot to turn in my Physics hw last Saturday. I blame it on being ill and our homework isn't due on Saturdays normally. We do our homework all on-line too. Anyway, I totally forgot with having ASAP on Wed (when Shae and I do our hw), having midterms on Thursday, and promptly getting ill. So I freaked out that I forgot to turn it in (I did it at ASAP!) and decided to e-mail my professor to see if I could turn it in anyway to check my answers and all that. I told Shae I forgot and she forgot too! So she also e-mailed our professor asking if she could turn hers in.

I get this e-mail this morning saying, "Bethany - did you mean to e-mail Dan Fernandez instead?" I had accidentally e-mailed my OTHER professor Dan Shapiro! I couldn't believe I did that! So I e-mailed him back apologizing and all that. Then I checked Shae's e-mail and she had ALSO e-mailed Dan S instead of Dan F! Seriously, what are the odds? LoL I blame it on the fact that I'm on POP and so I just typed in "Dan" and the first Dan to come up I hit okay for. :P *shakes head*

Chris and I went tidepooling today and I wore the wrong shoes for that too. Seriously, where's my brain? I know I'm on Spring Break, but even then...LoL I can't smell anything too. It's quite sad. :( Chris and I went to the Farmer's Market today and this lady goes, "smell these flowers!" I looked at her and said, "I can't smell anything. I have a cold." I tried anyway and went, "yup, can't smell anything." And she said, "Bummer. These smell of Spring." LoL

Gotta love being sick...

Colds

Well...I have a full-blown cold. Yay for me! I had my last midterm at 6pm on Thursday and I wasn't feeling well on Friday. I get up Saturday and I'm feeling like I might be getting a cold. I called out of the Aquarium on Sunday and slept the day away and watched LotR (7 hours!). Today...cold. Bleh. What a grand way to spend Spring Break! If I get anyone sick...SORRY!

Capstone, first draft, is due in 2.5 weeks! EEK! I should have a pretty good draft by then. I'm going to try and get it mostly done this week so I can get it off to Judy before the first official draft due date. I'm just amazed I only have 2 months left of classes and then I'm no longer an undergraduate college student. It's a nutty thought! Sometime the end of this month we find out honor rankings and all that. Should be fun.

Aquarium opened up the new and improved 2nd floor of the nearshore wing. I missed working it yesterday because I didn't go to the aquarium. Bummer. Maybe I can go tomorrow just to see it since Chris and I plan to go tidepooling and to the Farmer's to grab food before his class at 6pm. I just want to see it. It sounded cool in the plans and some people have seen it already and say it's pretty cool. We'll see!

With that...I'm off to watch more LotR and to crash.

I survived - almost

Finished my first week of classes.

Capstone on Wednesdays are mostly all done on-line so my Wednesdays (with the exception of Academic Planning Committee meetings) will be free. Thursday was my LONG day. I had Physics, election training, marine conservation biology, and environmental economics. There's 13 us in Environmental Economics and 4 of us are undergrads. A lot more undergrads than I thought! The class should be interesting, but I'm glad it's only once a week. Now to keep up with all the reading (2 textbooks) and all of that.

The sad news about this week is I got sick. :( I have some weird throat thing where my throat hurts like crazy and because of my throat I'm coughing, which in turn, hurts my throat. Vicious, vicious cycle. My sinuses hurt a little too, but not much at all. I'm stuffy nosed or headed. So...I dunno what's wrong with me. Talking is a pain because I can't talk really loud because it hurts my throat. I got away with it at MBARI today, but I have to work at Borders on Sat. Should be interesting...I'll probably be avoiding customers and reg pages for sure. LoL

Well, with that. I must be off to sleep. I've got Borders at 10am!

Christmas and My Normal Cycle

So, I WAS going to update and wish everyone a Merry Christmas, but I got really rundown and tired after I finished finals. I worked Saturday at Borders; I went to church, had the aquarium, and celebrated my dad's birthday on Sunday; and I had Borders on Monday and went to Christmas Eve service on Monday. I came home on Monday and immediately went to bed. I was just done in. Well, I woke up for about 30 minutes to go downstairs and eat. I ate, in a semi-rush, and went back to bed. I slept fitfully for a few hours and finally got up and threw up! Woohoo! *rolls eyes* I ended up sleeping TERRIBLE that night and threw up a few more times (about every hour after the first time for 4 hours!). I went downstairs sometime around 4 am to get something to drink. Kept a Pepsi down and slept for 1.5 hours (the longest stretch that night I slept). I got up around 6:30, though, after my stomach woke me up again. It just didn't feel good to be laying down. It felt better sitting up, so I ended up snoozing off and on on the couch on Christmas day, feeling miserable. I got through the presents without any issues, but promptly afterwards I threw up some more! To say the last, I skipped the Christmas meal and slept on and off for most of the afternoon. I did keep down another Pepsi and two jello/fruit cups, though. I was feeling okay in the evening, so I ate something solid! That was a bad idea...Ironically, I always felt better with an empty stomach than with a full stomach. *sigh* Of course I was getting this terrible headache because I was dehydrated, but I couldn't keep anything down. Water even came back up a few times. I did sleep through that night, though. 10 hours! Even after sleeping most of the day away.

I felt much better yesterday and I was up and moving around and nothing came back up, but my stomach has been pretty sensitive. I can't stand the thought of eating, even if I'm hungry. Yesterday I had Won Ton Soup and today...It doesn't sound good. Easy to eat/liquid things have been my friend. Though I do have to force myself to eat them.

Anyway, that brings us to the current day where I am going to work. I called out yesterday (2nd time in 3.5 years!). Funny enough, the last time I called out was ALSO December 26th. :P I do see a cycle here...I finish school, get super tired, get sick on/around Christmas. Hopefully, compared to last year, I won't carry it down south with me. That'd be a bummer...At least I don't have a cold! Less odds of having a bloody nose! *crosses fingers*

Off the topic of my illnesses....I'm FINALLY all registered for classes next semester! Yay! Physics I, Physics I Lab, Marine Conservation Bio, Marine Conservation Bio Discussion (20 minute "class" - how retarded...), Capstone Seminar II, and Environmental and Resource Economics. That's a total of 13 units or 15 hours of class a week. I have to figure out my extracurricular activities/work situation next semester. I was a bit overworked this semester and with Capstone Seminar II and Environmental Economics (it's a grad class...) I don't want to kill myself. LoL So I'm trying to figure out how to juggle everything. I have Borders (once a week), MBARI (I have to put in at least 10 hours a week for my capstone), Aquarium (every other Sunday), and Contest team manager, not to mention any personal life I'd like to have. :P I haven't exactly figured out which thing to drop...I'm between Borders and the Aquarium. I may see if I can drop myself at the aquarium to once a month or something. I would rather not drop Borders (go contingent - work once every quarter). I also don't really want to drop the aquarium either because of the gala in May. LoL If I go on leave I can't go in May on my own (I learned that one semester!). And...Contest team manager really isn't the problem. So...I have about 3 more weeks to figure this out! I go back to school Tues, Jan 22nd.

On a random note...Graduation is May 17th!!! I am definitely going to keep that in sight this next semester. I am ALMOST finished with my undergraduate degree!! *grins*

Well...I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate)! I had a good Christmas (despite my stomach bug) and I had a good birthday too (I forgot to mention that!).

Here's hoping to everyone having a great welcome into the next year - 2008!
